LUCA TORRIGIANI
Graduated with top honors in Piano, Organ, and Organ Composition from the “L. Cherubini” Conservatory in Florence under the guidance of Maestri Fiuzzi and Mochi, he later completed the Second Level Specialist Degree in Piano with a focus on chamber music at the same institution, earning highest marks and distinction under the tutelage of Daniela De Santis.
He studied with Piernarciso Masi at the International Piano Academy “Incontri col Maestro” in Imola, where he was awarded the Master Diploma in Chamber Music with the highest distinction, and also attended courses with Hector Moreno, Frank Wibaut, and Jörg Demus. His concert career began in 1992 with a prestigious tour in Japan, performing in major venues in Gifu, Nagoya, and Tokyo, where he had the honor of giving a private recital for the Imperial Family. In the following years, he established himself as a chamber music interpreter, performing in renowned concert seasons. With clarinetist Davide Bandieri (principal clarinet of the Lausanne Chamber Orchestra), he founded the Duo Prévert, winner of numerous first prizes in national and international competitions, including Grosseto, Casarza Ligure, San Giuliano Terme, Pietra Ligure, Racconigi, Ortona, Riviera della Versilia, Livorno (Menicagli), Venaria (Luigi Nono), Montescudo, Pisa (Fidapa), and Manerbio. In 2002, the Duo received a special mention for the best performance of Brahms at the International Chamber Music Competition of Pinerolo. Since 2010 he has collaborated with guitarist Lapo Vannucci, embarking on an artistic journey of international scope. The duo, praised for their refined sound and communicative artistry, has premiered works by Francesco Di Fiore, Luigi Giachino, Giuseppe Crapisi, and Teresa Procaccini. Together with various orchestras — including the “Ion Dumitrescu” Philharmonic of Râmnicu Vâlcea, the “Mihail Jora” Philharmonic of Bacău, the Orquesta Sinfónica del Estado de México, and the Sanremo Symphony Orchestra — they have performed Tre Paesaggi, a concerto for guitar, piano, and string orchestra written for them by Francesco Di Fiore. They also presented the project Concerto Trilogy, performing three concertos dedicated to them by the same composer: for guitar and orchestra, piano and orchestra, and guitar-piano with string orchestra. He has recorded for the label Velut Luna, releasing the CD Italian Music for Guitar and Piano, which received excellent reviews from critics. Gregorio Moppi wrote in La Repubblica: “Guitarist Lapo Vannucci and pianist Luca Torrigiani understand each other so well that they generate a single opalescent sonic surface. […] They play as if they were one instrument.” Alongside his performing career, he has held teaching positions at the Conservatories of Adria, Bari, Vibo Valentia, and Trapani. He is currently Professor of Piano at the “Pollini” Conservatory in Padua. The many successes of his students in national and international piano competitions earned him the Teaching Award. He is regularly invited to serve on the jury of prestigious piano competitions in Italy and abroad. He has been Artistic Director of the Associazione Cultura e Musica Rospigliosi, which organizes one of the most renowned international piano competitions.
